Oftentimes you have to choose between the character of a historic landmark and the modern-day amenities of a newer property, but The Mark Hotel offers the best of both worlds. The gorgeous 16-story building at the corner of 77th Street and Madison Avenue is a 1920s landmark with every modern comfort. Famed interior designer Jacques Grange created a space that’s stunning yet welcoming, from the avant-garde, French-inspired black and white marble lobby to the 5-star guest amenities.
It also boasts an incredible location: Plopped perfectly on the Upper East Side on a quiet and unassuming block, The Mark is conveniently located just steps from Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and many high-end boutiques on Madison Avenue. Read my full review below and see why I rated The Mark Hotel one of the best hotels in New York City.

All Star Amenities
Amenity options run deep at The Mark, from the soundproof guest rooms with Italian marble bathrooms to private bars with black granite countertops to premium bedding. I’d be remiss not to mention the gorgeous soaking tubs, complete with cozy post–bubble bath robes and slippers featuring the signature embroidered “M” logo.

CourtesyIf beauty and wellness is what you crave, it’s got that too: On the second floor of the property is famed salon Fekkai, where you can get a fresh blowout or haircut before your night on the town (or burn some calories across the hallway at the on-site gym). The hotel is also pet-friendly: Your furry BFF will be treated like a star upon arrival with a dog bed by Molly Mutt, a signature water bowl and a custom place mat.
The Mark’s seasonal Haute Dog Cart—located right outside the entrance to the hotel—has become a guest and local hot spot, serving up chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s grass-fed beef and gourmet organic chicken hot dogs from a lavishly decorated stand for $6 apiece. During summer months, a fresh flower cart adorns the sidewalk as well. The hotel features two restaurants and a bustling lobby bar.

Rooms
The hotel’s 10,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, six-bathroom penthouse, (which goes for $75,000 a night and features a private patio that turns into an ice-skating rink in winter) is the star here, but the property offers a variety of luxurious accommodations, from standard king rooms (which are anything but standard) to junior and signature suites.

Food And Beverage
Guests have plenty of top-notch dining options here. The Mark Restaurant By Jean-Georges serves breakfast, lunch and dinner: Plan on it being packed with stylish and beautiful New Yorkers no matter what time you choose to dine. Here, exquisite cuisine and a global wine collection combine to offer a unique and incredibly chic meal. Dinner standouts include caviar, pastas and the signature The Mark Cheeseburger topped with black truffle dressing and Brie. When the weather cooperates, you can take your reservation to the sidewalk patio and enjoy a romantic date night with oysters on the half shell, crispy salmon tartare and fresh lemony fettuccine.
Another wildly popular option is dinner at the lively Caviar Kaspia, the famous Parisian institution’s first New York location and the newest restaurant at the hotel. In addition to a selection of house favorites, like its famous twice-baked potato, you’ll find a caviar boutique featuring the finest selection of caviars.
After dinner, head over to The Mark Bar just off the lobby, where the scene overflows with well-heeled Upper East Siders sipping martinis and gabbing about their day. Handcrafted classic and signature cocktails are the vibe (as is dressing to the nines).

CourtesyIf you can’t bear the thought of peeling yourself out of your in-room soaking tub and putting on anything besides the cushy robe and slippers that you’ll find in your closest, stay right where you are and order in, thanks to the equally fabulous in-room dining program curated by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
